THE MIDNIGHT ROBBER

As the title character in Terror of the Midnight Robber comic book series, the Robber plays the role of the anti-hero, a being whose mission and motivations are unclear.  In fact, very little is known about the origin of the dark spirit that inhabits the body of Richard Ramses.  Read more here.

DOUENS

In Terror of the Midnight Robber, the Douens (pronounced Dwens) live in the forests of Trinidad and Tobago.  Like the actual legend, the Douens are children that died before they were baptized.  Now they exist as undead creatures, terrorizing those that stumble upon them. Read more here.

THE SOUCOUYANT

Because of the Soucouyant’s prominence in Trinidadian folklore, it was inevitable that she would be included as a character in Terror of the Midnight Robber.  The Soucouyant’s popularity can be attributed to the universal appeal of vampire mythology, and the comic book version plays off of that. THE LAGAHOO

In Terror of the Midnight Robber, the Lagahoo rises from a grave in Lapeyrouse cemetery.  He literally explodes from the earth, towering over a hapless vagrant that found refuge in the peaceful graveyard.  He then begins walking into downtown Port-of-Spain, leaving wrecked cars and damaged property in his wake.  In this way he represents the archetype of the lumbering beast wreaking havoc on an unsuspecting and powerless population.  This is key to many of the characters in Trinidad and Tobago’s folklore, where supernatural creatures terrorized children and adults as they emerged from the shadows. PAPA BOIS

In Terror of the Midnight Robber, Papa Bois is a character that is introduced early on in a brief appearance, but as we continue the story he will have an increasingly larger role to play in the events that unfold.  Like the folklore legend, Papa Bois is the keeper of the forest.  We first meet him in the forests of the Northern Range, where he helps a badly wounded Rick return to civilization.  The animals of the forest all see him as their guardian, and they speak freely with him.  Read more here
