The 10 Most Anticipated Movies Of The Rest Of 2010
Though the 2010 summer movie season was punctuated by truly inspired fare like Inception and
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, the overall crop of films left much to be desired. Fortunately, as the leaves turn brown
and the temperature drops, Hollywood shifts its sights away from dreams of billion dollar blockbusters to more thoughtful,
understated, inspired fare… Oh who are we kidding? Here’s the list of our ten most anticipated movies
of the rest of 2010.
Let
Me In (Oct 1st, Wide)- The remake of the 2008 classic Let The Right One In has been wowing
critics all over the country for the last couple weeks.Genre fans are also champing at the bit for this
dark and grisly vampire tale, but it remains to be seen just how much spending power the anti-twihards are willing to wield
at the cineplex this month.
The Social Network (Oct 1st, Wide)-
On the surface, a biopic about the creation of Facebook seems to be mildly engaging at best, but when it comes to taught,
compelling storytelling, few do it as well as David Fincher. The almost unanimous critical praise may also
push this October release into awards territory next year.
Buried (Oct 8th, Wide)- From
a storytelling point of view, this may be the most interesting movie of the season. There isn’t much
‘wiggle room’ when you’re making a movie that focuses on a man stuck in a box for the entire story. But early reactions have been more than favorable, so we’re definitely going to be in line to check it out.
Paranormal Activity 2 (Oct 22nd, Wide)-
After last year’s surprise hit scared up almost $200 million in worldwide box office grosses last year, the filmmakers
quickly got to work on a sequel in an attempt to repeat their success with another surveillance cam spook-fest.Will it live up to the original, or will Paranormal Activity follow other gimmicky franchises like The
Blair Witch Project into an early grave?Only time will tell.
Night of the demons (Oct 29th, Wide)-
This movie gets major points for its trailer alone. This reboot promises to be a cheesy, mean-spirited,
gory, over-the-top monster romp.We can’t wait.
Monsters (Oct 29th, Limited)-
Trailers and early footage from this monster mash set in Mexico look amazing, and early buzz indicates a really solid story. Some of the best sci-fi and horror movies in recent years have been coming from outside of the US, and we’re
hoping that this one keeps the streak alive.
Skyline (Nov 12th, Wide)- Though
recent allegations of proprietary technology theft coming from the producers of Battle: Los Angeles have dampened enthusiasm
slightly, we’re still interested in seeing if the Strause brothers can actually deliver a solid sci-fi movie after the
maddeningly underwhelming AVP: Requiem.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (Nov 19th,
Wide)- The penultimate chapter in the Harry Potter movie franchise looks dark and gritty- a far cry from the
Chris Columbus kiddie fare of The Sorcerer’s Stone.Like the characters in the story the
franchise has really grown up, and the last two movies promise to be brilliant.
Black Swan (Dec 1st, Limited)-
Darren Aronofsky.Natalie Portman.Girl Kiss.Obsession and self-destruction.Red eyes and crazy makeup. We’re in.
Tron: Legacy (Dec 17th, Wide)-
This highly anticipated follow up to the 1982 nerd-o-rama will certainly deliver visually (in 3-D, of course),
but the true acid test is whether or not the story will satisfy a far more sophisticated and computer literate generation.
