Based in Trinidad and Tobago, Mango Chil'ren follows the adventures of
a group of kids as they enjoy the unique experiences of island life. Join Sugar, Julie,
Long, Curry and Donkey Stones as they play football, cricket, marbles, karate, super heroes and any other game that
they can imagine! It's a fun walk through Trinidad and Tobago culture that emphasises elements specific to
growing up in the twin-island Republic, but many of the stories and situations in the strip are universal to children
all over the world. While Terror of the Midnight Robber is geared toward a more mature audience, Mango Chil'ren is meant to be shared by kids and adults alike.
The original idea for the strip was created by Christopher Riley, who also provides
the artwork. Wendell Riley handles the storytelling. Both brothers were raised in Trinidad and Tobago, and they
draw from their own experiences growing up when creating Mango Chil’ren stories. They see the strip as an
opportunity to revisit a time when having fun did not revolve around computers, video-games or TV; a time when kids
had to use their imagination and whatever was available around them to find fun and entertainment. It is
also a love letter to T&T, a country that is rich in diversity and cultural depth. The characters in Mango Chil'ren all
use authentic Trinidadian slang, so for readers not familiar with the dialect it may take a few episodes to get
accustomed to the nuances of 'Trini talk'.
